History of Sariska National Park

Sariska National Park or popularly called as Sariska Tiger Reserve is most visited wildlife sanctuary in India situated in the Alwar districts of Rajasthan. Its stretches sprawl over an area of 881 square kilometer comprising of dry deciduous forests, scrub-thorn, grasslands and rocky hills. Sariska is located at a distance of 106 kilometer from Hindaun, 107 kilometers from Jaipur and 200 kilometers from national capital Delhi. It is a part of the Aravalli range which is very rich in mineral resources such as cooper. Sariska is popular since the times of Mahabharta war as it is believed that the Padavas used the dense forest of Sariska to hide themselves from Kauravas during their exile. As per the Hindu mythology, Pandupol- a place in Sariska where Bhima met Hanuman.

Wildlife in Sariska National Park

Sariska National Park, located in Rajasthan, is a rich biodiversity hotspot. The park is home to an impressive variety of wildlife, including big cats, herbivores, reptiles, and birds, set against the backdrop of the Aravalli hills and dense forests.

Tigers : Sariska is famous for its Bengal tigers. The park is part of the Tiger Reintroduction Program and currently houses several relocated tigers and their cubs. Notable tigers include ST-9, ST-10, and others, often spotted in Zones 1 and 2.

Leopards : Found throughout the park, particularly in the hilly terrains of Zones 3 and 5.

Birds : Sariska is a birdwatcher’s paradise with over 220 bird species.

Raptors : Crested Serpent Eagle, Changeable Hawk-Eagle, and Shikra.

Vultures like the Indian Vulture and Egyptian Vulture can be seen soaring in the skies.

Sariska national park has two safari entry gates. The first one called Sariska Gate is most popular safari gate which has three safari/ tourism zones. Best time to visit Sariska

All national parks and protected reserves of India are closed for tourists during monsoon season, means no tourism activities are allowed. But there is something special about Sariska National Park that is open for the jeep safari tour for the visitors throughout the year even during the monsoon season. You can visit Sariska from 01st of January to 31st of December every year. Magical tiger land is best for tiger sighting in every season but from the month of November to April is an ideal time to visit Sariska Tiger Reserve as weather is pleasant and nature is in full blossom during this time.

Visiting Sariska in Winter Season (October - March)

The winter season October to March is considered as the best season to explore the flora and fauna of Sariska national Park. It is so because during winter season forest boasts with greenery after rainy season making its aura very pleasing and delightful. The forest department of Sariska started jungle safari in Bala Quila buffer zone of the park with an intention to promote ecotourism in the area where the focus on showing the natural soundness of the forest rather than wildlife sightings. Visiting Sariska in Summer Season (April to June)

Since Sariska is located in the Alwar districts of Rajasthan hence the summer season from April to June is very harsh and hot weather. The tiger reserve is rally very hot during day time and the temperature usually goes higher in afternoon. But you can go for morning jeep / canter safari in Sariska national park. Summer is considered best time to visit Sariska for two important reason – one there is less crowd in this season and second there is a high probability of sighting majestic royal Bengal tiger resting in wilderness. As most of the wildlife species come out and roam in and around water bodied to quench their thrust. Do not forget to carry sunscreen, scarves and cotton clothes in this summer season.
